HeartCert CNA Nursing Program

Quick Facts:

Program Overview

HeartCert’s CNA program is a fast-paced, hybrid training option for those ready to start working in healthcare quickly. Approved by the state of Minnesota, it combines online convenience with real-world skills practice, making it an appealing option for busy students. The curriculum is designed to meet or exceed both federal and state requirements, giving students the tools to become safe, effective nurse aides from day one on the job.

Graduates of the program are eligible to take the Minnesota Nurse Aide Competency Exam, which includes both a written test and a hands-on skills evaluation. Passing this exam gets you listed on the Minnesota Nurse Aide Registry, allowing you to start working as a CNA in hospitals, long-term care facilities, or home health settings.

Format and Schedule

The HeartCert CNA course follows a blended format that begins with 43 hours of mandatory online coursework, followed by 35 hours of in-person training. Students are expected to complete the online portion before attending the first in-person class, or they will have to reschedule.

The online segment includes readings, videos, and quizzes to prepare students for what they’ll be doing in the lab. It’s accessible shortly after registration—usually within 1-2 business days—and provides foundational knowledge about basic patient care, infection control, communication, safety, and ethics.

Once the online portion is complete, students move on to in-person training, which includes classroom instruction, lab practice, and clinical skills testing. These sessions typically span four to six consecutive days (depending on the class selected) and are held at HeartCert’s facilities in Minneapolis, Eagan, or Northfield.

Tuition and Fees

The total cost of the HeartCert CNA program is $1,500. This fee includes:

  • Online and in-person instruction
  • Access to all required course materials
  • Eligibility to sit for the state exam (note: state testing fees are additional)
  • Free lifetime certification reminders and informational updates as part of HeartCert’s “Lifetime Training Guarantee”

Students can also choose to add ESL support or test prep sessions at checkout, making the program more inclusive for non-native English speakers.

Additionally, there is the option to enroll in Trained Medication Administration (TMA) certification training at an additional cost for those who want to expand their qualifications and potentially earn more by administering medications in a healthcare setting.

Locations and Class Options

HeartCert offers a wide range of in-person class sessions at three primary locations:

  • Minneapolis (1201 W River Pkwy)
  • Eagan (4460 Erin Drive)
  • Northfield (Northfield Hospital, 1600 Riverview Ln)

Sessions are available on both weekdays and weekends, with several full-day options running from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. These flexible formats allow students to choose a schedule that fits their availability.

However, many of these sessions fill up quickly, with most currently showing as waitlisted. It’s important to register as early as possible to secure a spot.

What You’ll Learn

HeartCert’s CNA curriculum is centered around hands-on, practical learning under the supervision of experienced nurses. Students learn essential skills such as:

  • Taking vital signs
  • Assisting with mobility and transfers
  • Providing personal hygiene and basic nursing care
  • Communicating with patients and healthcare teams
  • Maintaining infection control and safety protocols

The course is designed to simulate real-world clinical settings, so students feel prepared for entry-level CNA jobs right after certification.

Support Services and Extras

HeartCert has made a point to be inclusive and supportive, offering a few extra services that can make a big difference for students:

  • ESL support: Optional English as a Second Language assistance can be added during checkout. This can help students better understand course content and prepare for the state exam.
  • Test Prep Sessions: Available for students who want extra help before taking the certification exam.

CPR Certification Option: While not a requirement for the CNA program, most employers expect CNAs to have Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification. HeartCert provides this training as a separate course, and students can easily register through the same website.

Admission Requirements

HeartCert keeps its entry requirements simple and accessible. Here’s what you need to know:

Prerequisites:

  • Be 16 years of age or older
  • Wear scrubs and a surgical or KN95 mask for in-person classes
  • Complete all required online coursework prior to attending in-person training
  • While not mandatory, it’s strongly recommended that students have a valid BLS CPR certification, especially if they plan to apply for jobs immediately after training

Students should also familiarize themselves with HeartCert’s cancellation and rescheduling policies, as missed deadlines for online coursework can delay in-person attendance.

Certification and Job Readiness

Upon successfully completing both the online and in-person segments, students become eligible to take the Minnesota Nurse Aide Competency Exam. This includes a multiple-choice written portion and a skills demonstration.

After passing the exam, students are listed on the state’s Nurse Aide Registry, making them eligible for employment in licensed healthcare settings.

HeartCert makes the process simple by providing all the necessary information about how and where to register for the exam after the course is complete. The program also encourages graduates to pursue additional certifications like Trained Medication Administration (TMA) for broader job options.

Lifetime Training Guarantee

One of the unique benefits of this program is HeartCert’s Lifetime Training Guarantee. Graduates receive free informational updates and reminders about certification renewal, so they stay compliant with state requirements. This ongoing support helps maintain your credentials and job readiness throughout your career.
